Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 21 August 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to services and bespoke furniture supplied by Public Joinery Ltd (“Public Joinery”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
Company: Public Joinery Ltd
Company Number: 15183293
Registered Office: Unit B2, Loughton Seedbed Centre, Langston Road, Loughton, England, IG10 3TQ

By accepting a quotation, paying a deposit or other project payment, or otherwise confirming an order with us, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
1. Our Services
Public Joinery designs, manufactures and installs bespoke and made-to-measure furniture, including fitted wardrobes, kitchens, TV units, storage solutions and other bespoke joinery.
Because our products are made specifically for each property and customer, dimensions, designs, materials, finishes and specifications will normally be agreed individually for each project.
These Terms should be read together with your quotation, approved drawings, specifications and any written variations agreed between you and Public Joinery.
If there is any conflict between these Terms and a specific written quotation or order confirmation, the terms stated in the quotation or order confirmation will take priority in relation to that project.
2. Online Estimates
Any price provided before a site visit, including estimates based on photographs, approximate dimensions, plans or information supplied through our website, email, telephone or messaging services, is an estimate only.
An online estimate does not constitute a final quotation or a binding offer.
The price may change following:
-
accurate site measurements;
-
inspection of the property;
-
confirmation of materials and finishes;
-
changes to dimensions or internal configuration;
-
unusual site conditions;
-
access restrictions;
-
structural or installation requirements; or
-
changes requested by the customer.
We will explain any material change in price before the customer commits to the final order.
3. Site Survey and Measurement Visit
Where a site survey is required, our current standard wardrobe survey fee is £150, unless a different amount is stated when booking.
The fee covers the professional site visit, measurements and assessment of the project.
Where stated in our quotation or booking confirmation, the survey fee will be credited against the project price if the customer proceeds with the order.
Once the site visit has been completed, the survey fee is not refundable because the service has already been provided.
If a visit is cancelled or rearranged before it takes place, any cancellation rights or charges will depend on the circumstances, notice given and any applicable consumer rights.
4. Quotations and Formation of Contract
Following the site survey and confirmation of the project specification, we may provide a final quotation.
Unless stated otherwise, quotations are valid for the period specified on the quotation.
A contract normally becomes binding when:
-
the customer accepts our final quotation; and
-
the required deposit or first payment has been received.
Payment of a deposit is treated as confirmation that the customer accepts the quotation, these Terms & Conditions and the agreed project specification.
Prices will state whether VAT is included or added separately.
5. Design and Drawings
Where drawings are provided, the customer is responsible for reviewing them carefully before approval.
The customer should check, where applicable:
-
overall layout;
-
door configuration;
-
shelves and hanging rails;
-
drawer positions;
-
handles;
-
internal arrangement;
-
colours;
-
materials;
-
finishes;
-
lighting positions; and
-
other design details.
Manufacturing may begin once the final drawings and specification have been approved.
Approval may be given by email or another written form of communication agreed between us.
Once drawings have been approved and production has started, changes may result in additional charges and a revised completion date.
We will advise the customer of any additional cost before carrying out a material variation.
6. Customer-Requested Changes
We will try to accommodate reasonable changes requested before or during production.
However, because the furniture is made specifically for the customer, some changes may not be possible once materials have been ordered, components manufactured or finishing work started.
Additional design work, materials, manufacturing or installation caused by customer-requested changes may be charged separately.
Any significant variation should be confirmed in writing.
7. Materials, Samples and Finishes
We use materials including MFC, MDF, painted MDF, natural timber, wood veneer, laminates, glass, mirrors, metal fittings and other specialist finishes depending on the specification.
Samples are intended to provide a reasonable representation of the final material or finish.
Natural materials such as timber and veneer may vary in:
-
grain;
-
texture;
-
colour;
-
pattern; and
-
appearance.
These natural variations are part of the material and are not normally considered defects.
Painted and manufactured finishes may also appear slightly different under different lighting conditions or when viewed on screens.
Website photographs, renders and digital images are illustrative and should not be relied upon as an exact representation of colour or texture.
Nothing in this section affects the customer's statutory rights in relation to defective, incorrectly described or unsatisfactory goods.
8. Existing Walls, Floors and Property Conditions
Bespoke furniture is fitted to the existing property.
Walls, ceilings and floors in existing buildings are often not perfectly straight, level or square. Our installation team will make reasonable adjustments and use appropriate fillers, scribes, infill panels and finishing methods to achieve a professional fitted appearance.
The customer should tell us before installation about any known:
-
electrical cables;
-
water or gas pipes;
-
underfloor heating;
-
concealed services;
-
fragile finishes;
-
structural problems;
-
damp or water damage; or
-
other conditions that may affect installation.
We are not responsible for defects or damage resulting from pre-existing property conditions that could not reasonably have been identified during the survey.
9. Access and Site Preparation
The customer must provide reasonable access to the property on the agreed delivery and installation dates.
Before installation, the working area should be reasonably clear of furniture, personal belongings and other obstructions unless otherwise agreed.
The customer is responsible for arranging any required:
-
parking permits;
-
building access permissions;
-
concierge or management-company permissions;
-
loading arrangements; and
-
other property-specific access requirements.
Any parking, congestion, access or similar costs not included in the quotation may be charged separately where agreed.
If installation cannot proceed because reasonable access has not been provided, additional costs resulting from the delay or return visit may be charged.
10. Lead Times and Installation Dates
Any lead time or installation date given before final confirmation is an estimate.
Production normally begins after the required payment has been received and the final design and specification have been approved.
We will make reasonable efforts to meet agreed dates. However, bespoke manufacturing can occasionally be affected by matters outside our reasonable control, including:
-
supplier delays;
-
material availability;
-
transport disruption;
-
illness;
-
unexpected manufacturing issues;
-
site conditions;
-
access problems; or
-
events beyond our reasonable control.
If a significant delay occurs, we will inform the customer and arrange a revised date.
Nothing in these Terms removes any statutory rights the customer may have where timing has been expressly agreed as essential to the contract.
11. Installation
Installation times depend on the size and complexity of the project and the conditions at the property.
During installation, reasonable drilling, fixing, cutting, filling and adjustment may be required.
We will take reasonable care when working at the property.
Unless expressly included in the quotation, our work does not include unrelated building works, electrical alterations, plumbing, decorating, flooring repairs or structural works.
Where specialist work is required from electricians, plumbers, builders or other contractors, responsibility for arranging such work will be stated in the quotation or agreed separately.
12. Payments
The payment schedule for each project will be stated in the quotation or order confirmation.
Payments must be made by the due dates shown.
Where a staged payment becomes due because a specified stage of the project has been completed, the presence of minor snagging items does not automatically suspend payment of the entire amount due.
If legitimate snagging remains outstanding, Public Joinery and the customer should agree a reasonable solution, including where appropriate a reasonable retention relating to the outstanding work.
Ownership of goods supplied by Public Joinery remains with Public Joinery until all sums due under the relevant order have been paid in full, to the extent permitted by law.
13. Snagging and Completion
Bespoke furniture is individually manufactured and installed, and minor adjustment may occasionally be required after the main installation.
The customer should notify us of any apparent snagging items as soon as reasonably possible after installation.
We will inspect legitimate workmanship or manufacturing issues and arrange reasonable remedial work where required.
Snagging does not include:
-
customer-requested design changes after manufacture;
-
damage occurring after installation;
-
normal movement or settlement of the property;
-
normal wear and tear; or
-
issues caused by misuse, moisture, excessive heat or third-party alterations.
This section does not limit the customer's statutory rights.
14. Warranty
Where Public Joinery provides a specific commercial warranty, the duration and scope of that warranty will be stated in the quotation, order documentation or separate warranty information.
Manufacturer warranties may apply separately to hinges, drawer runners, lighting and other third-party components.
Unless otherwise stated, a commercial warranty does not cover problems caused by:
-
accidental or deliberate damage;
-
misuse or neglect;
-
excessive moisture or water exposure;
-
excessive heat;
-
structural movement of the property;
-
unauthorised modifications or repairs;
-
damage by third parties; or
-
normal wear and tear.
Any commercial warranty is provided in addition to, and does not replace or restrict, statutory consumer rights.
15. Cancellation and Bespoke Orders
Most products supplied by Public Joinery are made specifically to the customer's measurements, design choices and specification.
Under UK consumer law, the normal cancellation rights applicable to some distance and off-premises contracts may not apply to goods made to the consumer's specification or clearly personalised.
This does not affect the customer's legal rights if goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet statutory requirements.
If the customer wishes to cancel a project before manufacturing begins, they should contact us as soon as possible.
Depending on the stage reached, we may be entitled to retain or charge a reasonable amount to cover costs and losses already incurred, including where applicable:
-
design work;
-
site surveys;
-
specially ordered materials;
-
supplier cancellation charges;
-
manufacturing already completed;
-
labour already carried out; and
-
other reasonable losses resulting directly from the cancellation.
We will not impose cancellation charges that exceed the losses we are reasonably entitled to recover under applicable law.
Once bespoke manufacturing has commenced, cancellation may result in a substantial proportion of the project price becoming payable because custom-made items may have little or no resale value.
16. Cancellation by Public Joinery
We may suspend or cancel work where there is a serious reason, including:
-
non-payment;
-
persistent refusal to provide required access;
-
unsafe working conditions;
-
abusive or threatening behaviour towards our staff or contractors; or
-
circumstances making the work unlawful or impossible to perform.
Where we cancel for reasons that are not caused by the customer, we will refund payments relating to goods or services that we will not provide, subject to applicable law.
17. Customer-Supplied Information
The customer is responsible for ensuring that information supplied to us is accurate.
Initial estimates based on dimensions supplied by the customer are calculated using those dimensions only and may change following our own measurements.
Where the customer specifically instructs us to manufacture from measurements, drawings or technical information supplied by the customer or their architect, designer or contractor, the customer is responsible for the accuracy of that information unless we have agreed to verify it.
18. Intellectual Property
Drawings, designs, renders, specifications, photographs and other materials created by Public Joinery remain our intellectual property unless otherwise agreed in writing.
They may not be commercially reproduced or supplied to another manufacturer for production without our permission.
The customer may use project drawings for the normal purpose of reviewing and approving their own Public Joinery project.
19. Photography
We may ask for permission to photograph completed work for our portfolio, website, social media or marketing.
Where identifiable personal information or private details may be visible, we will take reasonable steps to avoid publishing them.
Customers may tell us if they do not want their completed project used for promotional purposes.
20. Website Information
We make reasonable efforts to keep information on our website accurate.
However, website prices, specifications, photographs, lead times and descriptions are general information only unless expressly incorporated into a final written quotation.
Because every bespoke project is different, information displayed on the website should not be treated as a guaranteed specification or final price for an individual project.
21. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for:
-
death or personal injury caused by negligence;
-
fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
-
statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for losses that are a reasonably foreseeable consequence of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was entered into.
Different limitations may apply to contracts entered into wholly for business or commercial purposes.
22. Consumer Rights
If you are purchasing from us as a consumer, these Terms do not restrict your statutory rights.
Goods supplied to consumers must meet the requirements imposed by applicable law, including requirements relating to satisfactory quality, fitness for purpose and correspondence with description.
Services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill.
If any provision of these Terms conflicts with a mandatory consumer right, the statutory right will take priority.
23. Complaints
If you have a concern regarding your project, please contact us first so that we can investigate and attempt to resolve the matter.
Email: info@publicjoinery.co.uk
Telephone: +44 20 8787 7020
Please provide your name, project address, relevant photographs and a clear description of the issue where possible.
We aim to deal with legitimate complaints fairly and within a reasonable time.
24. Privacy
Personal information submitted through our website or provided during a project will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law.
25. Changes to These Terms
We may update the website version of these Terms from time to time.
Changes will not retrospectively alter an existing contract unless the customer and Public Joinery agree to the change or the change is required by law.
The Terms applying to a project are normally those in force when the customer enters into the contract.
26. Governing Law
These Terms and any contract between the customer and Public Joinery Ltd are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer, nothing in this clause removes any mandatory rights you may have regarding the courts or laws applicable to you under consumer protection legislation.
